What is a Tipster?

A Tipster is a person that offers information to be used for sports betting purposes.

What is Tip Exchange?

Tip Exchange is a community of Tipsters that allows users to buy and sell sporting information online. To sell information, a Tipster would open an account with Tip Exchange. They would then be able to upload their tips to their account before 11am on the day of the event. Users can then search through all the Tipsters using the criteria they feel important and then choose to add the service they feel suits them best to their portfolio. The tips are provided to the subscriber in the form of emails, RSS and via their portfolio. Once the tips have been published, the Tipster is unable to modify them, therefore protecting the integrity of their service.

Why Subscribe to a Tip Exchange Tipster

Many of us have used Tipsters in the past with varying degrees of success. One of the big problems is trusting the integrity of their claims. Tip Exchange solves this problem by preventing Tipsters from modifying their information after the tips have been published. Therefore you can trust the past results of these Tipsters. The Tipsters are listed in a league table based on their profits or any criteria you feel are important. Each Tipster is subject to the same rules for calculating profits. Profit is calculated at sensible and realistic prices including commissions where necessary and every single tip is included in their results. Subscription to a Tipster is on a monthly basis only and is not recurring, so you will not be charged if you do not want to continue your subscription.

How to find a Tipster

Tip Exchange has many sports Tipsters. So which should you add to your portfolio?
Well fear not. We record every tip entered by each Tipster, check its result, calculate the profits and tabulate the results.

Every day we create a table of Elite Tipsters from all sports and display this table on our home page.

We also create five further sport specific tables on a daily basis, to help you search for Tipsters to add to your portfolio.

1. Elite League
Tip Exchange's very own premier league of Tipsters. Only those Tipsters that meet our strict criteria can qualify for the Elite League. This is the first place any serious Punter should be looking when expanding their portfolio.

2. Custom Tables
The custom table allows you to create your own league tables based on the criteria that you feel is important.

3. Award Winners
Successful Tipsters win awards when performing well over weekly and monthly periods. We have assigned points ratings to each award and have tabulated the results.

4. Best Free Tips
We have made it even easier to find and add free tips to your portfolio. The Free Tipsters League is just like the Custom tables but only includes Tipsters that are either free or are offering a free trial.

Tip Exchange Profit Explanation

From January 1st 2010, Tip Exchange uses Betfair SP to record horse racing prices from Betfair markets. Should Betfair fail to publish their SP's for any markets then we will use our previous recording mechanism as described below:

Prior to this, Tip Exchange had access to real Betfair prices and calculated profits for all bets against these prices. Odds for Tips posted prior to this date are derived from the returned SP for Horse Racing and Bookmakers prices for Football tips.

Those users that use Betfair regularly will know that the price can vary greatly leading up to the start of an event. In order for Tip Exchange to record a fair price for each tip, we take a price at two separate intervals within the final ten minutes leading up to start of the event. We then use the average of these two prices as the recorded odds for the selection. Note that Betfair does not offer Each Way betting and so we continue to use the traditional SP for these types of bets.

The profit is calculated for each selection as follows:

• All winning back bets are calculated at the average recorded Betfair price and are subject to 5% commission.
• All losing back bets are not subject to commission.
• All losing lay to win bets are calculated at the average recorded Betfair price.
• All winning lay to win bets are subject to a 5% commission charge.
• All losing lay to risk bets lose the entire stake risked.
• All winning lay to risk bets are calculated at the average recorded Betfair price and are subject to a 5% commission charge.
• All winning EW bets are calculated at SP and are not subject to commission. Place terms are as follows:
  • Handicap races of 16 or more runners - 1/4 odds first 4 places.
  • Handicap races of 12 to 15 runners - 1/4 odds first 3 places.
  • All other races of 8 or more runners - 1/5 odds first 3 places.
  • All races of 5, 6 and 7 runners - 1/4 odds first 2 places.
  • Races with less than 5 runners - Place money goes on to win.
• All losing EW bets are not subject to commission.
• All winning Place Only bets are calculated at the average recorded Betfair price and are subject to 5% commission. Place terms for place markets are shown below.

Tip Exchange Search Page

The Tip Exchange Search facility allows you to use text to search for a Tipster or blog.
You can search using the search field in the main menu bar or by clicking on the search item on the Home page side menu.
By default you will search for all Tipsters that have posted a tip within the last 30 days, but you can modify these settings using the search fields.

The results are separated into two groups. The first group is the Tipsters that match your search term and the second group lists any blogs that match your search term.

The Tipster group lists more than just the Tipsters name. It also includes an icon to indicate the Tipsters sport, the date of their last tip and a list of their results from the previous day's events. In addition there are links that allow you to view their latest tips, contact them, view their statistics, subscribe to their service or RSS feed or add them to your Watchlist. By clicking on their name you can visit their home page.

The blog group lists the title of each blog, the author and date of publication. You can click on the title to view the full blog.

Tip Exchange Elite League

Tip Exchange has created the Elite League to help you search through the many Tipsters on our site. Tipsters must meet a set number of criteria in order to be eligible for the Elite League. The criteria have been chosen by Tip Exchange based on feedback from our users regarding the features Punters look for when choosing a tipping service. The criteria required for a Tipster to be eligible for the Elite League are outlined below:

• At least 3 months history.
• At least 50 bets.
• At least 10pts profit.
• At least 5% ROI.
• At least 66% profitable months.
• Last tip must have been within 30 days.

Tip Exchange Custom Tables

Tip Exchange allows you to create custom league tables based on the criteria you feel are important. Using the form, select the staking mechanism, bet types and the period for the bets that you wish to compare and click 'Show Table'. You can further filter the results returned using the form, to only include those Tipsters you consider important. You can then sort the table against any column you wish by clicking on the column heading.

Tip Exchange Award Winners Table

Tip Exchange awards Tipsters for successful periods of tipping. Tipsters can be awarded for finishing in the top 3 for each weekly period or each monthly period. To help show which Tipsters have won the most awards we have allocated points to each award as shown below:

• Tipster of the Month 1st Place: 15 points.
• Tipster of the Month 2nd Place: 12 points.
• Tipster of the Month 3rd Place: 10 points.
• Tipster of the Week 1st Place: 7 points.
• Tipster of the Week 2nd Place: 5 points.
• Tipster of the Week 3rd Place: 4 point.

Tip Exchange Free Tips Table

Tip Exchange has many Tipsters that are free or offer a free trial. This table allows you to create custom league tables based on the criteria you feel are important but only includes Tipsters that are either free or offer a free trial. Using the form select the staking mechanism, bet types and the period for the bets that you wish to compare and click 'Show Table'. You can further filter the results returned using the form, to only include those Tipsters you consider important. You can then sort the table against any column you wish by clicking on the column heading.

Tip Exchange Tipster Ratings Table

Tip Exchange allows Punters to rate the Tipster services that they use. The Tipster Ratings table is a summary of the ratings that Tipsters have received from their own subscribers.

Tipster Home Page

The Tipster home page provides a summary of the Tipsters service and also links to access further information.

The page has six sections:

1. Trophy Cabinet.
This is the top line of the page that contains icons highlighting the Tipsters achievements. The stars to the left indicate the rating given by previous or existing subscribers. The center icons highlight the number and type of awards the Tipster has won. A few Tipsters will be fortunate to have a shield on the top right which indicates they have qualified for the elite league.

2. Welcome Message.
This section is written by the Tipster and explains details about their service.

3. Latest Blogs.
This section lists the last 5 blogs posted by the Tipster. By clicking on the title of the trial you can view the entire content of the blog.

4. Price and Trial.
This section displays the Tipsters current price and any trial period that may be offered. By clicking on the Subscribe link you will be taken to their subscription page where you will be instructed on how to add their service to your portfolio.

5. Today's Tips.
This section displays the number of tips that the Tipster has posted for today. This figure is available after 11am on the day of the event. By clicking on the "View Today's Tips" link you will be taken to their tips page where you can view their tips should they exist in your portfolio.

6. Links.
This section displays further links to the Tipsters service. These allow you to send a message to the Tipster, view their results and statistics in detail, subscribe to their RSS feed or read their subscribers reviews.

Tipster Blog Page

The Tipster blog page allows you to view all of the blogs that the Tipster has posted for the current month. You can also view previous blogs by viewing the archives that are listed on the right hand side.
Rather than keep checking the site for new blogs you can subscribe to their RSS feed to keep up to date with their latest tips and blogs.
If you add this Tipster to your Portfolio, their blogs will automatically appear on your Punter account home page.

Tipster Tips Page

The Tipster Tips page displays all of the tips for the day's action. A link accompanies each tip that, when clicked, will take you directly to the relevant Betfair betting market in order for you to place you bet easily.
If you have this Tipster in your portfolio then you can view all your tips from your Punter account.

Tipster Results Page

This is probably the most important section for someone who is looking for a reliable Tipster. These results are complete and accurate and are updated every day using the Tipster's recommended stakes. The Tipster is unable to modify these in any way. The results are broken down into monthly sections and by clicking on a month you can see each individual bet recommended along with the result, the odds and a running total of profit.

The strike rate shown in the table shows the percentage of bets that the Tipster won. By clicking on the Profit Explanation link you can see how the profit is calculated.

By clicking on the month of your choice you can investigate each individual selection made by the Tipster in that month. The table shows the date, time, event and selection for each tip. In addition it shows the type of bet being recommended. The different types of bets are as follows:

Back. This is the traditional type of bet that Punters would place with a bookmaker. Should the selection win, the Punter wins the stake multiplied by the odds of the selection. If the selection loses then the Punter loses the stake.

Lay TW (Lay To Win). Lay To Win Stake means that the Punter uses a betting exchange to bet a selection will lose. This particular bet means that the stake specified is the amount the Punter would WIN should the selection not win their event. If the selection does win the event then the Punter would lose the stake multiplied by the odds of the selection.

Lay TR (Lay To Risk). Lay To Risk Stake is similar to Lay To Win in that the Punter uses a betting exchange to bet a selection will lose. The difference is that this particular bet means that the stake specified is the amount the Punter would LOSE should the selection win the event. If the selection does not win the event then the Punter would win the stake divided by the odds of the selection.

EW (Each Way). (Horse Racing Only) This is the traditional type of each way bet that Punters can place with a bookmaker. There are two parts to the bet, one part to win and one part to place. Should the selection finish first, the Punter wins both parts of the bet. If the selection finishes in the places then the place part of the bet is won but the win part is lost. If the selection loses then the Punter loses the stake for both parts of the bet. The stake for the bet represents the stake for each part of the bet, so 1pt EW means 1pt to win and 1pt to place, hence you are risking 2pts.

Place Only. (Horse Racing Only) This allows Punters to bet that a selection will finish in the declared places using the betting exchange Place markets. If the selection finishes in the declared places then the Punter wins the stake multiplied by the odds of the selection. If the selection does not finish in the places then the Punter loses the stake.

Place Lay TW. (Horse Racing Only) Place Lay To Win Stake means that the Punter uses the betting exchange place markets to bet a selection will not finish in the declared places. This particular bet means that the stake specified is the amount the Punter would WIN should the selection not finish in the places. If the selection does finish in the places then the Punter would lose the stake multiplied by the odds of the selection.

Place Lay TR. (Horse Racing Only) Place Lay To Risk Stake is similar to Place Lay To Win in that the Punter uses the betting exchange place markets to bet a selection will not finish in the declared places. The difference is that this particular bet means that the stake specified is the amount the Punter would LOSE should the selection finish in the places. If the selection does not finish in the places then the Punter would win the stake divided by the odds of the selection.

In addition to the bet type, the Tipster's recommended stake is also shown. This can vary between 1 and 10 points (pts). A point represents a unit of betting which can be £1 or £100 or even more depending on your level of staking.

Also shown on the results table is the outcome of the bet, profit and a running total of profit for the month. The outcome of the bet can be Won, Lost or Place. This represents the result of the race. The result of the bet is highlighted by the colour of the word, green means a winning bet and red means a losing bet. For example, if a Tipster Lays a selection and that selection wins, the outcome will be displayed as 'Won' as the selection won but the text will be in red as the bet lost. Place outcomes are shown should a selection finish in the places for an each way selection. The profit is calculated for each individual selection based on the outcome.

Tipster Subscribe Page

The Tipsters subscribe page allows a user to subscribe to the service. There are three ways in which you can join and they depend on the service offered by the Tipster.

1. Free Trial
If the Tipster offers a trial period that you have not yet used then you can click the 'Join' button to add the trial to your portfolio.

2. Free Service
If the Tipsters service is free then you can click the 'Join' button to add the service to your portfolio for one month. You can then extend the service again at the end of the month if the service continues to be free

3. Subscription Service
.If the service requires payment and you have already used the trial period, should one exist, then you can subscribe to the Tipster by clicking the PayPal button. This will transfer you to the PayPal site where you can make the payment securely. Once payment has been completed the Tipster will immediately be added to your portfolio for one month. Once the subscription has expired you will not be re-billed. You will be notified on completion and you may re-subscribe if you wish. Tip Exchange uses PayPal to handle the online payments as this keeps the costs low and ensures security for you, as neither Tip Exchange nor the Tipster has access to your financial details.

Tipster Statistics Page

The Tipster Statistics page contains a wealth of information about the Tipster service. Each statistic is described below:

Start Date
This is the date the Tipster posted their first tip.

Subscribers
This is the amount of active subscribers that the service currently has.

User Rating
This is the average rating given by subscribers of this Tipster service.

Level Stakes Ranking
This is the position the Tipster exists within the level stakes table.

Recommended Stakes Ranking
This is the position the Tipster exists within the recommended stakes table.

Profitable Months
The Profitable month's ratio is the total number of profitable months divided by the total number of months.

Longest Losing Streak
The longest run of losing bets.

Longest Winning Streak
The longest run of winning bets.

Awards
The Awards section lists the total number of awards that they have won. This is broken down into individual totals so that you can see exactly which and how many of each award they have won.

Reports
The reports provide graphical representation of the Tipsters performance. There are four graphs in total,
Level Stakes Monthly Profit is a bar chart where each bar represents the total profit made at level stakes for an individual month.
Recommended Stakes Monthly Profit is a bar chart where each bar represents the total profit made at recommended stakes for an individual month.
Level Stakes Total Profit is a line chart that plots the running profit for the Tipster service at level stakes.
Recommended Stakes Total Profit is a line chart that plots the running profit for the Tipster service at recommended stakes.

Tipster Reviews Page

The Tipster Reviews Page allows subscribers of a service to give a rating for the service they have received. This should not concentrate on the profit made but the peripheral aspects of the service such as the responsiveness to correspondence, the quality and content of the tips messages and blogs.
A guide to the ratings:
1 - Poor service, no responses from correspondence no tips messages or blogs.
2 - Below Average service, delayed responses from correspondence no tips messages or blogs.
3 - Average, responses from all correspondence, no tips messages or blogs.
4 - Good service, responses from all correspondence, some informative tips messages or blogs.
5 - Excellent service, prompt responses from correspondence, informative and regular tips messages and blogs.

Tipster RSS Page

RSS is known as "Really Simple Syndication" and is a Web feed format used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts directly to you. A Tip Exchange "feed", contains a summary of a blog post or notification of posted tips from your Tipster. It makes it possible for you to keep up with your favorite Tipster in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader". The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds. Try http://www.rssreader.com/ for a free reader.

To subscribe to the Tipsters RSS feed then enter the link at the bottom of the page into your RSS Reader.

Tipster Contact Page

The Tipster Contact page allows you to send a message to the Tipster. The message will be received in their Tipster account and their response will be sent back to the inbox of your Punter account.

Tipster Account Home Page

The Tipster Account Home page gives a summary and status of the Tipsters service. There are eight sections to the page each within a headed box.

1. Inbox. This box indicates whether the Tipster has any new or unread messages in their Inbox. It also provides a link to the Inbox to view any messages.


2. Latest Blogs. This box will display any blogs that have been posted within the last seven days. You can click in the title of the blog to read the article and there is also a link to take you to the Tipsters blog page.


3. Today's Tips. This displays the number of tips that have been added today along with a link to the add tips page, so that you can add more if necessary.


4. Latest Reviews. This will display any reviews posted by your subscribers in the last seven days.


5. Subscribers. This box displays how many subscriber and triallist that you currently have. It also shows the number of people who are watching your service within their portfolios. The date and estimated amount of your next payment are also displayed along with links to allow you to visit your subscriber's page and statement page.


6. Yesterdays Results. This will display the results of the tips that were posted yesterday along with a daily profit or loss. There is also a link to your results page to allow you to investigate your results further.


7. Statistics. The statistics section shows your current level stakes ranking, user rating, total awards and profitable month ratio. It also provides a link to view further statistics about your service.


8. Links. The links section provides links to view your notebook, upgrade your account and view your settings.

Tip Exchange Account Inbox Page

The inbox will list all messages you have received from other Tip Exchange users. You can view those that you have sent by clicking on the 'Show Sent Messages' link.
Unread messages are highlighted in green. There are icons available to allow you to delete the message and also mark it as read or unread.
By clicking on the message you can read the message along with any previous messages in the thread. A simple box is available for you to respond to the message.

Tipster Account Tips Page

The Tipsters Tips page is the most important page that the Tipster will use. It is the page that the Tipster will use to add their sports tips for the current days events.
To add a tip simply select the date, event, selection, stake and bet type using the drop lists below and click insert. The tips will be sent out automatically at 11.05 (UK Time) each day, so please make sure they are uploaded before 11.00 (UK Time). Each time a tips is added it is shown below along with a betting link and a delete button. If you add a tip by mistake you can delete it at any time before the tips are published. In addition to the tips, the Tipster can add a message to accompany the tips by entering the text in the message field. This message will be private and only seen by your subscribers. If you wish to leave a public message then please use your blog. Adding a message to accompany your tips can greatly improve the service and user experience.

Tipster Account Blog Page

The Tipster Blog allows you to post regular articles regarding your results, your service, your sport, or about anything really (except your tips as the blog is free to view!). Simply click on the 'Post New Blog' button, add a title, blog content and click 'Publish'. Users can view your blog via your mini site and those that have your service in the portfolio will automatically receive the blog in their Punter account home page. Users can also subscribe to your blog via RSS and occasionally your article may appear on the Tip Exchange home page giving your service more exposure. You have the ability to publish, edit and delete existing blogs and you can view previous blogs by viewing the archives that are listed on the right hand side.

Tipster Account Subscribers Page

The subscriber's page shows all current subscribers to your service including those on a free trial. They are listed along with their payment amount and expiry date. You can send a message to the subscriber by clicking on their name.

Tipster Account Statement Page

The statement shows all payments made to you including the date, amount and total subscribers for the period. It also shows your current commission rate, next payment date and estimated payment amount for your next payment. Highlighted payments are estimations of future payments to give an idea of when and how much your payments will be. Click on the date to see details of the payment. The details of each payment will show the subscriptions that have been included in your payment.

Tip Exchange Account Notebook Page

The Notebook is a useful tool that allows you to track certain horses. If you wish to follow a certain horse then you can add it to your notebook and the day before it is due to race we will send you an email informing you of the course and time of the race. If you wish to remove a horse from your notebook you can simply click on its name and it will be removed.

To add a horse, enter the name of the horse in the search field below the notebook and click 'Search'. The results will be displayed below the search field. To add the horse to your notebook, click on the name of the horse. Should the horse you require not exist in our list then please email us and we will be glad to add it.

Tipster Account Upgrade Page

The Upgrade page performs an assessment of your service and provides information about the financial implications of upgrading your account.

The page shows you the current account type, the amount of paying subscribers, your current price, and commission and uses this information to calculate the potential profit over the next twelve months. The calculation below is an example of a service with 35 subscribers paying £30 per month:

35 * 30 * 12 = £12600.00 -> (35 subscribers, £30 per month, 12 months)

£12600.00 – 35% = £8190.00 -> minus commission

£8190 - £20 = £8170.00 -> minus Annual Fee

The same calculation is applied to both the Silver and Gold accounts in order to see which subscription level would produce the best return for you.

The potential profit is an estimation of profit for the forthcoming year. It assumes that the current price, commission and paying subscribers remain constant for that period of time. The result is the net profit after all fees and commissions.

Note: The upgrade cost appears lower than the actual cost because any remaining time at the current level is included in the price.

Should you wish to upgrade to either the Silver or Gold accounts then click on the 'Upgrade Now' link and you will be transferred to the payment page summarising your upgrade. You can then click on the PayPal button where you will be transferred to PayPal's secure site to complete the transaction. If you decide that you are better off remaining at your current level and wish to extend for another year then click on the ‘Extend’ link next to your account type.

The Extend page shows the subscription level, how much it will cost and when your new expiry date will be. By clicking on the PayPal button you will be transferred to their secure site to complete the transaction.

Tipster Account Settings Page

The Settings page contains your Tipster service details. Clicking on the ‘modify’ button next to the setting allows you to change that detail.

This page allows you to change the price, trial period and welcome message for your service. In addition it allows you to upgrade or extend your account.

Punter Account Home Page

The Punter Account Home page gives a summary and status of the Tipsters that you have in your portfolio. There are five sections to the page each within a headed box.

1. Inbox. This box indicates whether you have any new or unread messages in your Inbox. It also provides a link to the Inbox to view any messages.


2. Latest Blogs. This box will display any blogs that have been posted within the last 14 days from any of the Tipsters in your portfolio. You can click in the title of the blog to read the article and there is also a link to take you to the Tipsters blog page.


3. Portfolio. This gives a summary of your portfolio and also warns you of any subscriptions that are close to expiry. It also provides a link for you to view your portfolio.


4. Today's Tips. This displays the number of tips that have been added today for each Tipster in your portfolio along with a link to the view tips page.


5. Links. The links section provides links to view your notebook, statement and view your settings.

Punter Account Portfolio Page

Your portfolio lists all your active subscriptions, trials and any Tipsters that you wish to keep an eye on. The darker shaded Tipsters are those that are either trials or subscriptions and the lighter shaded Tipsters are those that you are watching. When you are watching a Tipster you can not see their daily tips.

For each Tipster in your portfolio there are icons that when clicked will take you to the Tipsters mini-site. There is an icon to contact them, subscribe to there service, view their statistics or subscribe to their RSS feed. There is also a link to remove them from your portfolio.

You can also see yesterday's results for the Tipster by clicking on the plus icon before their name.

Punter Account Tips Page

Your Tips page lists all the tips for those Tipsters with whom you have an active subscriptions or trial. Each Tipster is list with the number of Tips that they have posted for the day. These tips will be available after 11am. You can view each tip individually by clicking on the plus icon before the Tipsters name. This will display each individual tip along with a Betfair link to the relevant betting market.

Punter Account Statement Page

This statement shows all the subscriptions you have purchased on Tip Exchange. For each paid subscription it will show the date of purchase, the Tipsters name, payment amount and expiry date for the Tipster.

Punter Account Settings Page

The Settings Page allows you to view and modify details of your account. This page contains your personal details. Clicking on the ‘modify’ button next to an entry allows you to change that value.
